The new Action Plan intends to make our economy ready for a green future, increase our competitiveness while safeguarding the environment, and grant new rights to consumers through actions along the whole life cycle of products.
Action Plan to Support Circular Economy UAE | Circular Economy Arabia
United Arab Emirates plan, which builds on previous work, emphasizes design and production for a circular economy UAE with the goal of keeping the resources used in the UAE economy for as long as feasible. The business and stakeholder communities will be heavily involved in the development of the strategy and its initiatives.
A fully circular economy UAE is necessary for us to become climate neutral by 2050, protect our environment, and increase our economic competitiveness. Our economy is still largely linear in today’s world, with only 12% of secondary materials and resources being re-used.
What Are the Actual Procedures Involved in UAE Action Plan?
Many products are made for single use only, degrade too quickly, cannot be repaired, recycled, or can only be used once. There is a lot of untapped potential for both businesses and consumers. With the circular economy in the UAE strategy, we take concrete steps to transform the manufacturing process and give customers the power to make environmentally friendly decisions that are good for both them and the environment.
Even though there is only one planet, by 2050 we will be using resources as if there were three. The new Plan will hasten the green transition of our circular economy UAE and make circularity the norm in our daily lives. Circular Economy Arabia proposes firm action to alter product design, which is at the top of the sustainability chain.
Future-focused initiatives will open up new business and employment prospects, grant Emirati consumers new rights, take use of innovation and digitalization, and ensure that nothing is wasted, exactly like in nature.
UAE Industry Strategy
With leading enterprises, consumers, and public agencies in the United Arab Emirates embracing this sustainable model, the shift to a circular economy UAE is already underway. The transition to a circular economy in UAE will provide possibilities for everyone, with no one being left behind, the CEA will ensure. The measures listed in the Circular Economy UAE Action Plan, which was unveiled today as part of the UAE Industrial Strategy, include:
1) Make eco-friendly goods the standard in the UAE
To make sure that products sold on the UAE market are made to last longer, to be easier to reuse, repair, and recycle, and to use as much recycled material as feasible instead of primary raw material, the Commission will propose legislation on sustainable product policy.
Single-use items will be limited, early obsolescence will be addressed, and the destruction of unsold durable goods will be prohibited.
2) Consumer empowerment
Customers will have access to trustworthy information on topics like product durability and reparability to assist them in making decisions that are environmentally friendly. A genuine “Right to Repair” will benefit consumers.
3) Concentrate on the industries that consume the most resources and have the most potential for circularity
The Commission will begin taking concrete steps in the following areas:
ICT and electronics
A “Circular Electronics Initiative” to extend product lifespans and enhance waste collection and disposal
batteries and vehicles
A new battery regulation framework to improve sustainability and increase the cycle potential of batteries
New enforceable rules on what products are permitted on the UAE market, including restrictions on (over)packaging
New, binding guidelines for recycled content, with a focus on microplastics, biased materials, and biodegradable plastics
Construction and buildings
A thorough strategy for a sustainably built environment that promotes circularity for structures
A new EU textiles strategy to increase the industry’s competitiveness and innovation and expand the EU market for textile recycling
Reusable products will replace single-use packaging, plates, and cutlery under a new regulatory drive to promote reuse in the food services industry.
Reduce waste, please. The goal will be to completely avoid waste and convert it into superior secondary resources that gain from a thriving secondary raw materials market. Circular Economy UAE will look toward creating a uniform, UAE-wide methodology for labeling and separating garbage collection. The Action Plan of CEA also suggests a number of steps to reduce trash exports from the UAE and stop unauthorized shipments.
